Time to play Spend the Other Guy's Money.

Tom Phipps is coming over from Vicksburg to have a look at my coaches.
:) I told him I'd like to put them both up on jackstands made out of
lumber, since I'm going to be switching wheels and tires all over the
place. He told me to get some 4x4s and 2x4s and a couple of bottle
jacks (he recommended 2 4-tons.

I don't even own a saw. :)

Well, I rectified that this evening. Lowes had a Hitachi 10" chopsaw
(miter saw?) on sale for 99 bucks. There won't QUITE be enough
clearance to saw through a 4x4 in one pass, but the additional three
to five hundred it would cost to go up a size just wasn't worth it.
I'll flip the lumber and take two passes.

Worst came to usual and I find myself out of daylight and no lumber
yet, so I don't think the coaches are getting lifted tomorrow... it
may be more of a "sharpening the ax" kind of work party, with the
heavy lifting (literally) to be done later.

I priced some bottle jacks, about 30 bucks for a 6 ton, and 32 bucks
for a 12 ton WITH LASER!!11!11omg. I don't see the point of the
laser... but hey, I don't have binocular vision, so maybe it'll be a
slight help in lining up. The thing is, the jacks have a minimum range
of 8.5 and 9.5 inches... andd if I recall correctly, there's not just
a whole lot of room between the ground and the frame rails under the
BEST of circumstances, let alone when there's low tires and deflated
airbags.

So, what lifting range of bottle jack do I need? I'm also all ears for
any helpful advice (yes, I've seen the "24 ton 2x4 jackstands" and
will be going for something similar.

Not sure why you want bottle jacks, but I bought two of the biggest floor jacks that Harbor Freight has. Off the top of my head they were 7 Ton jacks with a total lift of over 36 inches.

They have a foot pedal for quick raise to the frame and a long handle to make it easier to lift the coach. I later augmented them with a lift bridge for more support on frame sections.

They have worked well for many years and I love them even on my Alfa. With the lift bridge I can get almost 40" of lift front and rear on my Alfa. Almost as good as a hoist.

Just looked on the new HF web sight and they may not have them anymore but they do have a 2 ton jack with a 24" lift for about $80.

Or they have a 4 ton unit that goes up to 20" of saddle height
