Passenger side removal of height level control valve did not end well. i thought the nut was loose becuase it didnt give any resistance when i turned it, then the damned bolt wrang off with the 2nd twist.

Anyway now that the background is out of the way... how in the world do i get to the bolt from the inside of the coach so i can replace it. its the passenger side which is behind the cabinet under the fridge. but it doesnt look removeable like the panel in the buzz box.

ALL ADVICE WILL BE HEEDED, APPRECIATED AND USED! thanks in advance guys, hoping i can get this project done this week sometime.

Jase,

Easiest thing to do is make up a pair of these:

http://www.gmcmhphotos.com/photos/showphoto.php?photo=28375

The bolts are 1/4 x 20 x stainless steel button head with the button ground flat.

http://www.gmcmhphotos.com/photos/showphoto.php?photo=28376

IIRC the screws are 3/4 inches long and I used ss nylock nuts to hold the ride height valves on.

http://www.gmcmhphotos.com/photos/showphoto.php?photo=28377

Using my typical overkill engneering along with the seven ss pop rivets the plates were sealed / glued to the wheel well with
3M-5200.

I just yanked the old bolts out through the fibreglass and cleaned it up a bit. It left depressions that the ground off button head
screws fit into which located the plates in the right place. Well close enough anyway!

Regards,
Rob M.

are the rivets just in the fiberglass or are they finding some frame in there to attach to?

Donovan (sorry),

The rivets are 3/16 " OD and go through the fiberglass.

IIRC the plates have got more than 10,000 miles on them.

I had been able to reach the passenger side by removing the cabinet under the bathroom sink and reaching my hand down into the opening behind the wheel well just enough to pass a bolt through a hole. I had a helper on the outside that held the bolt and got a washer and nut on it.

Then, working from the outside and carefully holding the bolt so that it didn't slip back inside I was able to get the leveler bracket onto the bolt and the nut back on.
I used stainless steel bolts so that I wouldn't have a problem with a rusty bolt breaking off again.

I went to Dave Lenzi's height adjusters so that I wouldn't have to move the bracket to adjust the height so my brackets are firmly bolted in place and should not have to be moved again.

i thought i could go in through the bathroom also, but it seems like its too far to reach. is the bathroom inset flexible enough for me to reach from the bathroom to behind the fridge area and push a new bolt through? i really need to get out there and look again because it seemed really tight for me.

i didnt take the bathroom cabinet out while i was just looking, but that should open up more room and allow more 'give' in the fiberglass bathroom wall.

I did this several years ago. When I think about it more I believe that there was a steel plate with two bolts welded or brazed to it.
When the bolts broke the plate fell inside.
I was able to retrieve the plate with a magnet on a string. Then I drilled out the broken bolts and put in stainless steel 1/4" bolts and epoxied the heads against the steel plate.
Then I was able to reach into the space to get the plate with the two bolts into the holes so that someone could grab and hold the bolts on the outside.
I don't remember if I was able to reach in with my arm and hand or whether I used a tool. I may have clamped the head of a bolt into a vise grip or a channel lock pliers to give me the reach to maneuver the bolts through the holes. Whatever I did was successful.

Donovan,

The back panel of the lower frig storage is removable. Remove the corner brackets and unscrew the panel which gives you the access that you need.

At least, that's how I found mine to be. I glassed a strip of metal with 2 nutrivets.

Lucked up for the first time ever....

before i began the dismantling of the passenger side of my coach, i thought, just for s&g's let me see if there is enough bolt left for the nut to grab. Holy cow. the thing managed to break off, so i could tighten it completely thru the bolt. So that made my whole day.
