Is there an illustration in one of the manuals which shows the front to back center of gravity on a 23' and a 26'? I'm trying to figure if either or both might be hauled on my big trailer. The 23' will fit, the 26' might fit, but where the C/G falls will determine the tongue weight on the truck pulling it. I realize it changes with model and setup but the basic will get me started.

thanks,.

Johnny,

I absolutely can not help with the numbers because I don't have any, but Ken Burton probably does. Or, if you know where there is a 26, drive it over a scale.

Once you have a front and rear weight, the C/G is just simple math. (This is for for/aft only.) The C/G is just the fraction of the WB that the weight is from that axle.

if there isn't a diagram someone can find, a truck scale can weigh the front and rear independently.

Johnny, on a 26’ the basic average is 12,000lb with the front axel average ~ 4000lb leaving 8,000lb for the back 2 axels. You have to consider overhang on rear as it subtracts from actual front weight when considering loading for bridge laws. Your issue is trailer weight and balance and getting it to fit on the wagon. If possible you will probably have to load it and weigh the tongue and the trailer and May have to move knives and forks to rear bed room to unload tongue weight. It will probably depend where the tires are on the trailer.. big truck 5th wheels are loaded different since the tractor does carry weight and a pick up tow type does not unless it is a center of bed ball or a 5th wheel. If it is 5th wheel or ball in bed type then truck carries weight and 2/3 of weight behind wheels and 1/3 in front of wheels will put you on the money since you have to consider the weight of the tow truck. With the pull ball only the trailer wheels on ground and tongue weight is the issue, and braking ability.

Thanks, I scaled using a ratio of 10K and 140 I think wheelbase. Anyway the rule o thumb C/G falls between the axles, and would be moveable with that WB a couple or three feet forward if you wanted. So if I find a 23' that's appealing I can go get it. And pretty well control tongue weight.

Chuck is spot on with his estimate if it is a 26 foot coach. We usually find the front is between 3800 and 4300 on the fronts. The rears are usually 7600 to around 8200 for all 4 rears added together.
I have not done the analysis for the rears on a 23, but the fronts are usually the same as a 26 foot coach.

Due to the design of the rear suspension, You can take the total of each pair (left side pair and right side pair) and consider the weight as one wheel applied at the center point between the 2 rear wheels. I use to know that distance between the center point of the rear and the center of the front wheels. I am guessing it is around 15 feet, but you need to measure it or look this up to get and an accurate number.

I am going to weight a coach tomorrow but it is a 26 so the results will not help you much.
