Tom Prior covered some of the issues wall. I wouldn't touch a line lock with that 10 ft pole. We make many changes to our GMC's. And we need to adhere to basic SAE standards when making changes. Suspention geometry, and braking components. Are key parts of vehicle dynamics. Yes. We put Quad Bags on, True track, reaction arms, and rear disc brakes. These items don't change the basic geometry of the systems that fallow standard SAE guidelines. The line lock creates a situation. That makes a change to the main braking system. That GM produced. And doesn't fit into standard modern SAE approved situations.
Yes. I'm looking into a different park brake system. But I'm not doing 70 on a public highway.
The 1 ton kit. And the front rim spacers. Also don't fallow any SAE standards. Or would ever be approved. Because it is violating SAE standard guidelines. Vehicle dynamics is huge for me. On road race tracks around the country. And on the street. My 4 COPO Yenkos that I have. Are valued between $220,000. To $330,000 each. I need to have other vehicles around me/them. On public streets. Or on the track. In compliance to SAE standards. For the pure safety of driving.
Just my 2 cents. Need to go back to my hole. Sorry.

I dunno if I mentioned this before, but it's relevant. The Mooney on Certificate CAE uses hydraulically operated flaps. A gent on the Wetumpka airport tied his down with the flaps extended facing away from the sun. Two days later we were watching him lap the field for some touch n gos. As he approached, the airplane rolled right in two distinct jerks and then rolled level. He execusted a go - around and a no flaps landing. When we inspected the airplane, we founf one of the flap actuating rod bent. Consequently each time he pumped the flap handle, the left flaop extended much more than the right, due to the bent actuating rod. After some thought, we realized the bent side actuator had been in the August sun a couple of days, and the increased pressure bent the rod. Since then, I don't like the idea of leaving hydraulic pressure on much of anything.

Pretty much the way I see it, too. Temporary use, O.K, long term, not so
much.
I still remember those Girling brakes on early British sports cars.
Mineral oil fluid. Oh yeah! If you were RELIGIOUSLY ALERT and did your due
diligence maintenance, they did O.K. but, woe be upon you if you neglected
them.
I was in the Military from 1956 until 1965. National Guard. Maintenance was
their middle name. I started out in a Armoured Unit. M41 and M47 tanks, and
later helicopters. 15 hours on the ground for every hour in the air.
Later transferred to the OrArmyNG, AAA unit. Hq Btty, 249th Arty Group.
and became an ordinance trained Armorer. 90MM Skysweeper anti-anything
radar controlled. More maintenance than you can believe. Now, its part of
my DNA. GMC's? Same deal. Sitting still is a rapid way to making a lot of
work for yourself.

Jim, the unit that was our host - 187TACRECON - transitioned from RF84s to RF4Cs. A batch of guys flew about six of them in, and were in the chow line when one of the 187 guys mentioned 'as soon as we get them up to ANG standards, they'll be good aircraft". He wasn't joking, either. They deadlined about half of the flight for one problem or another. I got a ride in back of one a couple years later, another two beer story.

The helicopters were pretty crude devices compared to today's birds. They
were used mostly for target selection, med evac, forward observation. No
combat role in those days. Most of our birds were returned from the Korean
Conflict. M.A.S.H. mostly.
Then came Vietnam. The 1st Air Cav got the first Hueys. They got the
Crap shot out of them. So, that brought out the gunships, and Wart Hogs.
Believe you me, the A-10s changed the way we execute troop protection on
the ground. They call it Close Air Support now. Forced Charlie to come up
close and personal when those things were in the area.
Taught the towel heads a few lessons in Iraq, too. Don't know what
this subject has to do with GMC's, but I hope all the Vets out there who
own a GMC have a great Christmas and New Year as well.

If you will come south to a GMC con, GMCMI maybe (?) I'll give you the three beer story about the army aviation unit on the same base transitioning from Bell 47s and Sikordky S-58s to Hueys and LOACHs.

Johnny, kinda thinking along the lines of an idea that Alex Birch's
grandson, Gregg Birch is kicking around.
Nothing firm as of yet, but, when Alex worked for GMC, one of his
official duties was that of test driver for the Coach. A major anniversary
of his historic test drive from Michigan to a as yet undisclosed location
in California, through the American Southwest, and returning to Detroit.
Gregg has a tentative plan of recreating that test drive, and
returning to Sioux Falls for the GMCMI convention, and ending up on
Woodward Ave for the super cruise. Still in dream and planning stages, but,
if it comes to pass, Judy and I are ALL IN for it. IF IT HAPPENS, we will
be a rolling rally.

Jim,
If you are in communication with the involved people, they should know that now the Woodward Dream cruise has a 10K GVW limit. This sucks because through the windshield of a GMC is about the best way to see the cruise. It is either that or stand in one place and walk the 8 mile route.
If they do want to be here then, get back to us because some of us have ways to get them close by, they just can't drive the route. Maybe they can if we start early and talk to the organizers and Local Law.

I am not familiar with the "Great River Road". Where does it start and end?
Paterson, Louisiana? Don't know much about that either. Convention there?
When? Judy and I are taking her adult daughter and her friend to Portugal
in July for a river cruise on a Viking longship on the River of Gold from
the 13th to the 25th of the month. Would those dates conflict?
I had a brain fart the other night in the early A.M. and it went
something like, "Hey, wouldn't it be just great if Dick Paterson, myself,
Ken Burton, Dave Lindsey, Jimmy K., and Jim Bounds, Matt Colie, and you get
the idea, all Gather somewhere and make ourselves available for Q's & A's
in a panel discussion. Kinda like information r'us."
Don't know where or when, but better if it is sooner rather than
later. Ain't none of us getting any younger.

The Great River Road has been on out list for a while, but we just lost most of two season (only 7K miles in 2 years) back to back. The Trace is about a straight run for us, but the big muddy diverges west and would make it a lot longer run. As is, we are planning to do the Trace in slower fashion this time.

We traveled The Great River Road after the last Patterson rally on our way home to Wisconsin. Much of it is 4 lane through some beautiful country and we found to be lightly traveled. A great ride if you are not in a hurry. Lots of COE (Corp of Engineer) parks where you can use your Senior Pass for 50% off. JWWD
