I just got an email from Summit Racing where I had the Cardone water pump AAZ-55-21118H on back order since April.
The told me they got word from manufacture that they were no long making the pump and the order was being cancelled.

Sandy,
That's what we've been finding out. I've even called most pep boys supply houses in Texas to check on stock and none were found.
One option for a new water pump is the GMB "130-1260P". On Amazon.
Good luck, Scott.

Thanks, Scott, I didn't see it on Amazon but I saw several GMB numbers that didn't match that one that said were heavy duty.
I'll dig a little deeper tonight for that number. I see Airtech sells some too that look a lot like the GMB.

Per the illustration in the url on eBay the shaft is in ball bearings at the nose. You want one with rollers for the front bearing to handle the asymmetric belt load(s). The Cardone one has the letter H appended to the part number, all of which is cast into the housing. They fulfilled my order but stopped shortly - as in a few says - quit filling orders and cancelling them, all the national sources and Cardone themselves. To build one properly, it should be align - bored after the bearings are fitted.

Johnny,
According to direct talks with the assistant project manager from GMB, the front shaft bearings on the hi flow and aluminum pumps are roller bearings..
If I knew how to post pictures on this site I would post the email I received from him..
Scott.

So the communication with GMB says the 130-1260P has the rollers in the front and is an aluminum body?
I have a leak up front on the original pump, so Hopefully this will be a good replacement.

Scott, I referred to the picture in the url which purports to be that part, and shows ball bearings at the fan end. If the picture isn't that pump, believe the maker. And ask why they used an inaccurate picture Smile

Sandy,
According to GMB, the 130-1260P(cast iron, high flow) and the 130-1260AL(aluminum body, high flow) all have the higher quality roller bearings up front and the higher quality ball bearings in the rear.
They also said that the 130-1260(standard flow, cast iron body) has the STANDARD quality roller bearings up front and the STANDARD quality ball bearings in the rear..
Question is, what do they consider standard quality?
Scott.

Those pictures on Amazon and Ebay don't always represent the item you are buying.
This sounds like the correct pump and as a bonus it is heavy duty.
I see on the Amazon page it also shows what appears to be the same pump last digits 1260P that states aluminum.
The GMB website is lacking in tech info.
Scott, is Meng Ho who you were conversing with on the info?

Sandy,
Yes, Ming Ho was the person I talked with there . The 1260p is NOT aluminum. The 1260al IS aluminum.
Here is another link...with their cut away.. Scott.

I bought a GMB 1260P and it arrived right before leaving for Mansfield.
Looked aluminum to me, but I didn’t apply the magnet test. I’ll do that
when we get home. It has an 8-blade stamped stainless steel impeller.

I just bought (at a time not of my own choosing) their severe-duty fan
clutch. Made in USA. It’s installed but I haven’t tested it yet.

Ming said it should be in the specs for the pump on the bearing type and it probably should be added and he will talk with the engineers to clarify and get back with me tomorrow.
I'm betting it does as the picture you sent shows roller bearings on the pump.

Rick.
Now that's confusing with the fan clutch... GMB doesn't list any manufacturing in the USA... maybe it's a Hayden branded as a GMB???
The more I look into this stuff, the more smoke and mirrors I find.....
Now I know the stress Jim K must feel while trying to source parts for the GMC community... maybe just another reason to let the suppliers handle it..
Scott.

Scott, you still have to check stuff from the suppliers—they can’t check
every detail and we can be a picky crowd with conflicting expectations and
requirements.

The Amazon listing I used for the clutch looks like what I got, but it
looks different than pictures I see of a Hayden 2797 or 2784. It’s very
similar to a Delco 4644. Shipping originated from an Amazon warehouse (?)
in Etna, Ohio. I’m driving back to Virginia using it, so we’ll see.

Here is what I got back from Meng Ho, Assistant manager/Product Management at GMB Ph# 6096552422 ext 131

We got the reply from our factory and the design of the bearing shaft is ball/ball bearing.
However as 130-1260P is made in JP using GMB made bearings, we believe the quality is good for the application.

I had explained to him in a previous email as to the application on the GMC motorhome with the 403/455 engine and the heavy thrust load on the bearings.
With the Cardone pump gone, I will give this one a shot.

The GMB 130-1260P I received is indeed aluminum. It weighs 5.15 pounds. The front shaft has the markings "C19165-35A L GMB" on it. No idea if that translates to a roller bearing, though. Very nice looking pump, however.
