I am considering taking on a partner in my GMC in Phoenix so that the coach can be used a little more. If anyone is interested or knows a maintenance-savvy potential partner, PM me.

While I have HEARD of sharing arrangements of RV's, Airplanes and all kinds of equipment, it takes a couple of "special" people to make it work. Normally one guy will be always fixing what the other guy broke.

BUT... It could work.... with the "right" partners.

That's a big reason for posting it here and not on Craigslist, etc. I would probably have to do almost as many repairs due to lack of use as someone breaking something.

When I was selling Cessnas, we occasionally sold one into a partnership.  Most of them did well, probably because we always told the prospective partners to write down everything, and to list and compare where they flew to when the last few years.  Combine a businessman or two with a weekender or two, and you get a working arrangement.  We suggested a price per engine hour into the 'kitty' and set it higher than the true cost.  That way, instead of being hit with an unforseen charge, you had reserve for overhaul and maintenance, and if you ended up a bit ahead, you could add a feature (new radio, etc).  We also suggested an 'end of agreement' agreement as to how the partnership would be dissolved.  Your friendly lawyer can show you all of this, and draw up the papers.
For a GMC, I'd try to mix a weekender with a retiree or someone else who did mostly weekday runs.  Split holidays however you agree, and maybe alternate each year "You get Xmas I get 4th this year, next year we swap".  I'd start a kitty, and toss maybe 50 cents per mile and twenty bux a day into it.  Evaluate at years' end and see if you're gaining or losing.  You want this, plus the newbie's buyin to contain maintenance and upgrade money when something comes due.  Thus, when the 455 comes up for overhaul, you need to have 6k or so there to cover it.
Partnerships also require that you make timely repairs.  'I'll do it next week' doesn't work qwhen a partner is headed out day after tomorrow.  But, it can work and work well.

Yep, I agree, all your points are good. Everyone needs to know what expectations are, but I think the benefits to the coach from additional usage outweighs the cost of instant and unlimited availability.

It might be better to have a small pool of (trusted) people who might want to RENT the coach from time to time.

(I am not sure of the insurance issues.... for renting or a partnership.)

I like the idea of being able to rent out my GMCs. One more and I would
have a fleet. :)

i take many ausies and kiwis to rent a rv places from lax airport, it is a big fad to use and rent them.

Many persons rent homes by disneyland that persons rent the house out by the days or week to them.

If you put the rv in a park for a month here you could rent them like a hotel to persoons or even allow them
to travel with it. just an idea that is yours that would work here in disneyland.

It is hard to keep the sheep in the rv.

Not for me. Every time I loaned my tent trailer out, I found damage, AFTER I arrived at my next camping site. Something to be said for having your own toys.

Loaning out a trailer or a motorhome is like loaning out your
toothbrush..it never comes back the way you lent it out.

That's why I'm not considering a rental. Joint ownership with the right person makes perfect sense. Letting one rot in a storage yard doesn't.

My GMC sits forever while getting modified. I think using it would be much better then just sitting around. How many of our GMCs have less then 100,000 miles after 40 years! Many sit and get played with and some peoples rarely get used. Hope you find the right partner, if you do and they are true lovers of it, heck maybe you can pool your resources and turn it in to a Super Modified Monster GMC!

I've been in a partnership with a sailboat since 1981. We're all getting older and thinking of selling, but the partnership has been great. We've had a couple of member changes and some folks do more than others, but all in all, it's the only way I'd own something like that. A good partnership agreement and compatible folks is key. We each pay an equal amount monthly into the kitty and are mostly using professional paid maintenance. We assign times in a rotating weekly basis. It's usually easy to swap times so everyone gets all the sailing they want.
