Gonna go look at a potential parts coach this evening. If I can steal it, and if he will wait a week or so for me to moveit, I'll do so. Looks not too terribly bad in the pictures.

That possibility exists also.  It was supposedly running when he parked it.  He says he was paying someone to patch it though - expensive and poor idea.

OK, here's what's there.  TZE166V100456.
Model 06581

Pretty much box stock.  Dinette behind the pax seat, couch behind the driver, galley behind that, frig across.  Electrics and water inlet on driver's side, I assume water heater behind that.  Rear queen bed, didn't look under he says settee but hasn't removed the bed.  Headliner sags, gonna gotta be redone.  Stock GM front seats and dashboard, temp guage hung under the dash.  Not running, expired battery, he says starter doesn't engage.  Was running.  Smells of gas, has a bunch of new lines spliced in underneath, but tanks weren't dropped.  Leaked when he parked it in the driveway on a slope.  supposedly water and waste tanks don't leak.  6KW Onan on a slide, says it ran.  Battery in the onan compartment, did these also have a coach battery under the rear seats?  New mufflers welded into existing pipes.  Stock mainfolds, intake looks like it might be cracked, looking down the secondaries.  Suburban fuirnace, single Coleman roof A/C, two
'gee whiz' vents.  Cargo pod, fabric spare cover.  Tires have half tread, will be out of date by age.  Stock wheels and brakes.  Drivers side rear brake line leaks.  92,880 miles on the clock, I'd say that's accurate.  A/c mod, says no cool but fan runs.  Suburban furnace.  Works.  Tank has propane in.  Repaint - poorly - below the beltline, plus some paint peeling on the rear cap.  I expect it's been hit of hit something.  Frame looks good, boots on drive axles good.  Has a rebuild invoice for the trans, no idea how well or when, but looking at the mung on it, been a while.  All vacuum hoses need replacement.  HEI ignition.  Original air compressor and wiper motor.  Has a 'power level' system, which looks stock.  Stock 8-track/radio.  His 'mechainc' sold him a new inverter, did a sorry install.  Fuel pump on rear frame - looks like for Onan - hack wired.  Got a shower stall with a door.  Dumper and lav across the aisle, next to
the refrig.  Stock suspension, air bags holding air but show dry rot.  He says they leak down over several days.  Less than 30 degrees slop in the steering wheel total.  Sway bar in front.  Nothin obvious falling off the front suspension.  Window seals want replacing all around.  Minor fogging along the windshield edges.
I'm gonna offer loball, with the idea of dragging it home and putting it under a tarp for rehab as time permits.  It is the core of a nice coach, but it has a looooong way to go.

Sounds like a 2K coach to me. Going to be 25K if you try and put it back on the road. Actually, it sounds a lot like mine when I got it. Was a 3K coach then, probably a 10-12K coach now, and I've got over 20K total in it. GMCs are great toys, but they sure are expensive!

My offer will be about that, the deal sweetener if he wants it is a running SOB Itasca on a P-30 chassis.  Good engine and trans, partable reefer, roof A/C, Kohler genset, etc.  Taking up space in the driveway. I can make it go reliably and safely for 6-7 Large, but an equal amount to get the box correct and nice.  And a LOT of time. And keep the Jims in binness for a while as well.
We will see if he wants to have it go away or not.
Anybody else is interested, it's on the Atlanta Craigslist, located in Gainesville.

I wish I had a lot of money. I would buy all the derilect GMC's that I read about. One day, they will be back in demand.
Just think of all the old houses that were bulldozed because they were "out of style". The same thing applies here.

Johnny,

If there is rust (big rust) where the bogies and frame come together, then this is only a parts coach, or a platform for an eccentric rich guy to refurbish.

Everything else just sounds like age.

David,

That's what I thought about 1949-51 MKV Jaguar Saloons. I have four complete
cars and two parts cars. I bought them in the 1980's for a song when I was
based here as a field rep with a view of restoring them. The problem is it
costs about $25 grand to restore one and you can get about $30 grand for it
when you're done.

Regards,
Rob M.

When I sold the 340 Duster you see me leaning against in the photo, I refused - still refuse - to total up what I had in in just in parts and machine shop work.  Not to mention my time.  But, it was fun, it went like hell, the guy who bought it still goes out and embarasses new iron.  So it was worth it, however much 'it' was.

Well, I got to go back by there this weekend and look at the frame in the back.  I took a cursory look at the airbags/bogies/plumbing.  Old, but there.  I didn't pay attention to the possibility of rust under the mounts.  I'll look again.  In the interim, anyone else have an interest in this toy?  I can store it under a tarp on the back of my level lot without problems.  I suspect fopr a battery it would run, worst case would be an Autozone starter as well.  He's had it running, it's got gas in the tanks and no puddles under.  Brakes need looking at, but for a 15 mile run to the house, I can block off the rear side that is leaking (Vice = Grips do have a purpose in life).
He's at 4800 on Craigslist.  3 would be fair, I don't have it.  I'll likely offer 2, I suspect he won't take it.  He's 5 into purchase some while back, and near that again in jackleg labor and stuff that wasn't necessary.

Anyone have an interest?

TZE166V100456 is a new coach to the data base. Perhaps the Registry Guru,
John Shotwell will spot this and get the other info he needs.

Well, I have offered $2,000 for the coach as it sits, and offered the Itasca as a 'deal sweetener' since he has a '63 Impala he's rebuilding. I told him, heres a 350 CID unsmogged (should be a 4 bolt in a P30, shouldn't it?) and a rebuilt thm-400 behind it for his project; and an icebox, roof A/C, genset, and stove to sell befor he dumps the remainder as scrap. Currently $14 a hundredweight at the salvage yard.

Week after next (I have a show Wed thru Sun this week) the Itasca goes to the boneyard. Anybody want it for parts? Come get it and drive it home (carefully).

Well, I am the somewhat proud owner of this thing. '76 26 footer, no idea what model it's called. Deal is, he gets whatever I turn the Itasca for. I was gonna take it to the salvage yard and take what they give, but if somebody else wants, figure junk price, gimme it, and I'll give it to him.

If you stuff an iron 350 in a Vega, I wanna watch. From a distance Smile Can you really weld enough steel into one to make it stay reasonably unbent and in one piece with that kind of torque applied?
