One thing I can tell you about the Olds diesel is that I know a few people who were scouring the wrecking yards looking for them. The block may be too wimpy for diesel service, but they made a stout block for racing. While 23.5 to 1 was too much compression for the lower end, they could handle all the abuse racers could dish out up to 12 to 1. Leave it to gearheads to make a silk purse out of that particular sow's ear...

Found a broken Chevy Diesel P/U.
I replace a broken Diesel block out of a Olds 350 gas engine out of the
mall..
The Diesel dropped the crank.
Our daughter drove it to school and 4-H until Kalifornia wanted to SMOG it.
Sold it!
Cheap pickup for my cow girl.
