G’day,

There are nine different brands of transmission oil filters listed in the
GMCMI Parts Interchange for the TH-425; I doubt that there are nine
different manufacturers!

Does anyone have any evidence of one brand being better than the others?

Or if there is any brand to stay away from?

I did a Google search and the only thing that came up were companies that
could supply the filter nothing technical.

Regards,

Steve,

My GMCMHI parts list is out in ANNIE and it is snowing too hard to go out and get it. So can't check out P/Ns. Back around Oct. Mike and I changed Engine oil, Trans fluid and filters. If I recall we used an ATP B40 trans filter kit. In the course of doing this Mike noted that the oil cooler lines looked old, cracked and kind of ratty, so those were replaced too.

The filters used to be made here in the USA. When GM stopped
supporting the parts, I'm pretty sure the tooling went to China.
I deal with Transtar now and before that Axion and before that RPM,
and that's where they get them from.
I'm sure there are a few new old stock around the country still if you
can find them.

I recently ordered the Wix filter kit from Rock Auto. Wix 58882, comes with "O" ring and pan gasket. Also noticed it is available from <www.nationalfilters.com> for $11.96.

I ordered a trans filter and gasket from
a local transmission shop here in California.

It arrived with 2 part numbers (34661-B and F-131A)
which I haven't seen anyone mention.
Came in a clear plastic (marked 'Made in China') bag
with no brand name
with a gasket for the pan.

Total cost, $36.92 plus sales tax.

I have no idea if this is the correct one
but don't think I'll go there again.

Buzkin,

There's one close to that on the GMCMI Parts Interchange:

Atlas - 131

Because I don't know the name of the mfg.
I'm inclined to purchase the correct Wix or Fram filter.

Maybe save this first one as a spare.

What would you do?

Last I heard, any are suspect. Buy locally so you can check it at the
counter, ir from a GMC vendor that will assure it will work.

Anyone know if the transmission filter issues have been resolved? There
were a lot of them with undersized tubes (I ran into one) a couple of years

transmission oil/filter change and wonder which filter to look for.
Any knowledge of the brands that will work?
Thanks for any guidance.
