I wanted to tell all GMC Motorhome owners and other motorhome owners about how the cash for clunker program has helped me with my 78 Transmode.
My buddy owns a junkyard here in Toledo, OH and told me that he received about 22 conversion vans into his inventory thanks to the Cash for Clunkers program. I have stripped my GMC down to bare bones because I am dedicating mine to football tailgating and the "golf trip" mobile so I am basiclaly starting from scratch on how I want my GMC setup.
So, in these vans I found great "aircraft type lighting" and 9 beautiful leather chairs.
I know, "who wants all those chairs" but I do, because of the design of my coach. However, these junkyards have fans, electric fixtures and an assortment of other RV/Van items.
I picked up 9 leather chairs (that do match) for $225 and 6 aircraft lights for an additional $10.
This is not tradional GMC stuff but it can be incorporated into those "projects" or to replace some existing equipment. I am sure this is not right for everyone but it sure was fun digging around some spectacular vans.
Best of luck to everyone. I am really enjoying modifying my GMC.

Sounds like a great deal, and happy to hear that you're making your coach YOURS. It will be great no matter how you configure it.....just do it your way and ENJOY IT !! That's what they're for !

Tre cool! Yes, some of those van conversions are truly
great. And, as you're discovering, the components are meant
for road use - not a re-worked or re-packaged housing solution.
High end junkyard vans are my favorite source of mod parts.
If you get the chance, check out handicapped and shuttle
vans/buses. The very best automotive electrical components
are in there. Get all the Intellitec stuff you can find.
You'll figure out a way to use it somewhere. Lots of
aluminum extrusions, stainless, etc.
Don't be afraid to cross-pollinate with the components you
can use and that work for you, no matter what the source.
One of the dirty little secrets about the GMC motorhome is
that outside of the GM-designed/manufactured stuff, nearly
everything else is just plain, old RV stuff found in any
Winnebago, brand-F, etc. during that period. Almost anything
you can find even in van conversions is better than that stuff.

I wonder if now is the time to get some tail lights and Lumina Van wiper arms? (Except that I already bought my wiper arms from Jim K.)
I know that Gene's site has a listing for Junk Yard Gems - - time to brush up!

Umm... YES! I got my lumina wiper arms and some other Conv van tidbits from clunkers recently. Just watch out for the light green paint! None of the vans had nice enough tailights however, but there are more out there...
