Need some advice. I'm replacing the gray water tank dump line, a 3 inch abs plastic pipe that is connected to the gray water tank via a rubber grommet. The abs pipe is clamped to the rubber grommet which is attached to the tank by means of deep groves, around the circumference of the grommet, which slip onto the hole in the tank.
Here's the nitty gritty - the tank opening is 3 and 3 quarters inch, which according to the grommet instructions, is the correct size. However, once installed, the rubber grommet is a bit loose and thus prone to leaking, which is why I'm doing this messy job in the first place!
My question is, what compound will stick to both the rubber grommet and the gray water tank, which is made out of polypropylene plastic that resists all common adhesives? Simple plumber's putty might work, but I think I need something that will harden up and provide a rigid joint.
Appreciate any advice!
Thanks,
John Chalfant

John,

Someone mentioned here recently that one of the major manufacturers has
released an adhesive for polypropylene. I was looking for adhesives at
Lowes a few days ago and so a package (IIIRC, by LocTite) that claimed
just that. It might be worth trying.

Other than that, a flange mounted spigot with gaskets might be your best
bet -- such devices are available for attachment to dump valves. If the
flange is not big enough, you could fabricate your own from ABS
fittings, which works very well when cemented.

This is the first time I've heard of a connection like yours for a
submerged attachment; it's more common for vent pipes which aren't
routinely submerged.
