If you get an agreed value policy which needs an appraisal at the time you buy the insurance, you have an agreed contractual amount that the insurance company has to pay you.

You don't have to justify anything at the time of loss.

My GMC has an agreed value policy for $48,600 as appraised by Jim Kanomata last February. If we have a total loss that is what National Interstate will pay me.
