Kim, like Gene said, you might need a way to dump it someday. I left a 3 inch hookup up under the coach so I can crawl under and hook a hose to it and drain it. It does not show and I carry a new hose in the box it came in. Used it last year. I rebuilt the maserator and I carry a spare so maybe I can go another 4 years before any problems arise. The problem I had was that mine froze up in 12 degree weather, twice in a week. Did some damage to the pump.

Kim,

I second Gene's nomination, however, when I was getting Double Trouble ready
to store until next years tour I pulled the handle for dump valve that feeds
the macerator and the rod and handle came out in my hand! I looked up under
the GMC and saw a little stream coming from where the rod had pulled out of
the slide. I had to quickly attach the 3" dump hose and get it into the
sewer before I made a BIG smelly mess!

Yep
you will only use the Macerator. But when that little sucker sticks, or
gets plugged up, you will need the original dump pipe.

The PO of my rig thought as you do and eliminated the gravity dump.
When I bought the rig the macerator had failed and there was no way
to dump the black tank. When Tom Hampton replaced the macerator he
also reinstalled the gravity dump.

Belt and suspenders?

tgeiger,
As I was rebuilding the frame on my Glenbrook, I thought about the second -gray- holding tank.
I didn't do it. But, by moving the 2 fuel thanks forward - like adding a 3rd fuel tank - would create the place for the gray holding tank, and a 2 in. drain out and down the left side of the frame. The sink drain would be between the kitchen and closet module. The shower might also be possible.

... if there had been any mods done on seperating the black water storage from the grey water? Wondering if that is a plausible thing to do?

Like Jim says, For most of us it isn't worth the trouble. The "normal" one tank will work for most of us. If that isn't enough, the first idea would be just make the one tank as large as possible.

Seems to me the best reason to have a gray tank is to "recycle" the gray water -- use it to flush the jon. This would extend your water when dry camping.

All it would take is a seperate pump, taking water from the gray tank (just up from the bottom), that feeds a spray nossle on a hose next to the jon. Use it when there is gray water in the tank. Use the regular flush at other times.

Adrien,

I like the idea of pushing the fuel tanks forward and putting a gray tank where the rear tank is currently located. Now to figure out how to run the gravity dump lines...

Actually I had no thoughts other then if the macerator is so great -
and it is without question- why should I keep the original gravity dump.
Well the answer is pretty simple, the macerator will fail just when I
need it so I need a backup.

This is one of those "little" things that make this forum worth the
time to review.
Of course of the 36169 messages I have not archived - yet, I still
have 8967 to read over.

So much information by some of the best minds who KNOW how to deal
with the problems I will have with my coach.

How much better can life be then this?

Thanks guys
