Finally picked up a viair 444 c to replace the original Dana pump. The Dana still works, just not very well. It's getting tired.

There are replacement pistons and flapper valves to rebuild the
original...had you asked on line here.

I rebuilt mine in about an hour about 14 years ago. It is still running fine.
This is one of those items that is used do little that I feel a rebuild is a better choice than replacement. On an all day trip in travel it runs once or twice for 30 seconds or so each time. I do carry a Harbor freight 12 volt tire inflation compressor that could be quickly attached if the OEM DANA should quit.

Ken,

When I first got my coach, I rebuilt my Dana pump using the same kit you
used, and it still did a poor job of filling that big Power Level tank. The
roads here are neither flat nor straight, and my bags draw air on long
sweeping turns. My pump runs a lot more than yours, and the Viair pump
works a lot more quickly.

Doesn’t the EL-I in your ‘76 use a small tank?

You are correct the tank is something just over a quart. About the only time that I hear the compressor kick on is if I switch from a relatively flat interstate to a 2 lane country road. Also if I pickup a good crosswind it will auto level and sometimes kick on for that. Due to the delay in the level sensing switches it seldom corrects much for normal road variations. The corrections only occur if the out of normal conditions stay constant for a period of time. I do not know what that time value is. To be honest I seldom think about it since it is all automatic like GM designed it.

The tank on the OP's '74 with Power Level is more like something over a
gallon. My rebuilt Dana would take 7 minutes (from distant memory) to fill
it over the range of the pressure switch, while the Viair did it in a small
fraction of that.
